The receiver creates a QR code within the Bancontact Pay app, and the payer scans it with their Bancontact Pay or bank app. After checking the amount and confirming the payment with a fingerprint or face recognition, the money is on its way and will arrive soon!

For situations where you are the one owed money, you can send a payment request with the Bancontact Pay app via your favourite messaging app. Your friends simply click the link, which opens their app with all the details already filled in, allowing them to pay you back with a single tap.

Organising a group gift or a weekend away often involves the hassle of tracking multiple payments. The Money pot feature in the Bancontact Pay app acts as a digital collection point. You can create a money pot for a specific purpose, set a fixed amount or allow free contributions, and share the link with up to 30 people.

With the CASH point locator on our website or directly within the Bancontact Pay app, you can find the nearest location in an instant. By opening the app and tapping on the Cash dispenser option, you can see a real-time map of all nearby machines.
This clever tool even allows you to filter for specific needs, such as finding a terminal that dispenses smaller denominations like 5€ notes or identifying locations that are fully accessible, ensuring you always have easy access to your money.
Safe and secure social payments
Sharing money with friends is just as secure as paying in a shop. Bancontact applies the same rigorous security standards to personal transfers to ensure your funds and data are always protected.
- Every user of the app is linked to a verified Belgian bank account. This means you always know exactly who you are paying or receiving money from, providing a transparent and trustworthy environment for every transaction.
- Personal payments are never sent by accident. Every transfer, whether via QR code or a remote link, requires your explicit authorisation through your secret pin or biometric data like your fingerprint.
- Payment requests and money pot links are only available for a set time. Any payment request remains valid for 60 days, after which it automatically expires. This allows people enough time to pay you (back) but prevents old links from being used incorrectly.
- All payment data sent between devices or via messaging apps is fully encrypted. This ensures that your financial details remain private and cannot be intercepted by third parties during the process of paying back a friend.
